Why Isn’t Taylor Swift Eligible for the 2026 Grammys? What to Know About Her Status This Year

Taylor Swift dropped The Life of a Showgirl after the Grammy eligibility period had already ended.
Swifties, don’t panic — there’s a perfectly good reason why Taylor Swift isn’t in the running for any Grammy Awards in 2026.
When the nominations for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards were revealed on November 7, the “Cruel Summer” hitmaker’s name was noticeably missing from the list. However, her absence isn’t due to a snub — it’s simply because she didn’t release any qualifying material during the official eligibility period.
Although Swift dropped her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, in 2025, it arrived just over a month after the eligibility window had officially closed. Prior to that, she didn’t release any new singles, albums, or music videos that would have met the criteria for submission.
The pop superstar last attended the 2025 Grammys, where she earned multiple nominations for her 2024 record The Tortured Poets Department. While she didn’t take home any trophies that year, Swift remains one of the most decorated artists in Grammy history, boasting 14 wins since her first in 2010.
Even though Swift won’t be up for any awards in 2026, she could still make an appearance — possibly as a presenter, performer, or special guest. The ceremony will air on February 1, 2026, giving other artists their moment in the spotlight.
Swift’s lack of nominations this year comes down to timing. The 68th Grammys eligibility period spanned from August 31, 2024, to August 30, 2025. The Tortured Poets Department was released in April 2024 — before the window opened — while The Life of a Showgirl dropped in October 2025, more than a month too late. Her lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” and its accompanying music video also debuted that same month, putting them outside the qualifying timeframe.
The 2026 awards are one of the few occasions in Swift’s career where she hasn’t been nominated. Since earning her first Grammy nod in 2008 for Best New Artist, she’s been recognized almost every year, with the exceptions of 2009, 2011, and 2017.
Because her latest album missed this year’s cutoff, The Life of a Showgirl will instead be eligible for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards.
While Swift often attends when she’s up for awards, she has occasionally appeared even when she wasn’t nominated — like in 2009, when she presented and performed alongside Miley Cyrus. She skipped the 2011 and 2017 ceremonies, but with the Recording Academy’s invitations, it’s always possible she’ll still show up in 2026.
