In a recent ‘Interview’ cover story, the global sensation behind “We Found Love,” Rihanna, shared insights into the progression of her relationship with A$AP Rocky.
Before romance blossomed, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s relationship was grounded in friendship.
In a cover story for Interview, the renowned “We Found Love” superstar, aged 36, reflected on their long-standing acquaintance before they officially became a couple.
Their initial encounter occurred when they collaborated on a remix of Rihanna’s 2012 single “Cockiness (Love It),” which they later performed together at the MTV Video Music Awards. Their bond deepened further when they co-starred in A$AP’s “Fashion Killa” music video the following year. Although they didn’t transition into a romantic relationship until late 2019, the connection between them was undeniable.
“We shared similar perspectives on fashion and creativity. We often found ourselves in the same social circles,” Rihanna explained. “Beyond that, as we matured, we consistently supported each other’s brands, products, and creative endeavors. I would wear his clothing, and he would attend my launches.”
Their frequent interactions allowed them to observe each other’s approach to relationships before transitioning into romance. “I’ve witnessed him in relationships, and he’s seen me in relationships. We’ve observed each other outside of romantic involvements,” Rihanna noted.
“We were aware of our potential impact on each other’s lives, both positively and negatively. We understood the potential to either uplift or hurt one another. So, we approached dating with a great deal of caution,” she added.
“I simply allowed whatever was meant to unfold, to unfold. It was akin to tending to a flower. It could either wither away or bloom. But I decided to let it determine its own course,” reminisced the Grammy winner.
Rihanna and A$AP, aged 35, publicly acknowledged their relationship in November 2020, and since then, they’ve welcomed two sons together: RZA, who is 23 months old, and Riot, who is 8 months old.
“COVID expedited our relationship, which I believe was a blessing from God because we were preparing to start a family,” the “Diamonds” songstress shared with Interview. “If it weren’t for COVID, we would have taken much longer to become comfortable with each other, to even realize that we were ready.”
“After spending extensive time together during the pandemic, Rihanna emphasized that ‘there was no denying’ their commitment to each other for the long haul: ‘It was the best thing that ever happened to us. It just happened.’
‘I let God lead and simply surrendered,’ added the Fenty Beauty founder, who was previously romantically linked to billionaire Hassan Jameel before A$AP. ‘Because in past relationships, I exerted my best efforts repeatedly, and yet, you still feel like it’s insufficient.’
‘So when someone sees you for who you truly are, believes in you, and considers you worthy of being the mother of their children, it’s an incredible feeling,’ Rihanna expressed about A$AP. ‘I felt the same way about him. I knew he would be an exceptional father.'”
