She shared with PEOPLE that she’s actively building a sense of safety for herself and is excited to see how it will help her grow.

Lauren Jauregui is stepping into the new year with clarity about what she wants for herself.

In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, the “Ego” singer, 29, shared what she’s most excited about as she looks ahead to 2026. The former Fifth Harmony member revealed that she’s currently experiencing her Saturn Return — an astrological milestone believed to mark a period of major personal growth and reflection.

She also noted that she’ll be turning 30 on June 27, a milestone she’s genuinely anticipating. Speaking at The Hollywood Reporter and Spotify’s pre–Golden Globes celebration in Los Angeles on Jan. 8, Jauregui said she’s eager to continue leaning into self-discovery and exploring what the next chapter of her life may bring.

The Dancing with the Stars alum also took time to reflect on how her outlook has evolved over the years. While she feels she’s gained meaningful insight across many areas of her life, she admitted that one challenge has been her tendency to be overly critical of herself.

Jauregui explained that she’s reached a point where she no longer feels the need to be her own harshest judge, especially in a world that can already feel unforgiving. Instead, she’s focused on building a sense of inner safety and self-compassion, believing that this shift will allow her to grow and thrive more freely.

During the event, Jauregui also touched on her latest release, “Ego,” which dropped shortly after her time on Dancing with the Stars came to an end. She described the track as a soft rock reflection on self-awareness, vulnerability, and letting go of ego in order to form genuine connections.
