Michael Polansky is opening up about what parenthood could look like for him and Lady Gaga.
In a new Rolling Stone cover story, the 39-year-old “Disease” singer and his fiancée revealed that they’re hoping to start a family soon. Polansky explained that he and Gaga — born Stefani Germanotta — take inspiration from their close friends Elton John and David Furnish when imagining their own future as parents.
Speaking about John and Furnish’s sons, Zachary, 14, and Elijah, 12 — for whom Gaga is godmother — Polansky said, “Their children are genuinely joyful. What matters most is creating a home where it simply feels like this is our family and this is our life.”
He added that Gaga’s artistry isn’t something she’d have to separate from motherhood. “Her being Lady Gaga — the creativity, the work — none of that needs to be boxed away when she becomes a mom.”
Gaga echoed his sentiments, sharing that the two are very ready to have children.
“Becoming a mother is what I want more than anything,” she said. “And Michael will be an incredible dad. We’re really excited for that chapter.”
In October, Gaga spoke with Stephen Colbert and told him that her biggest dream moving forward is to become a mom.
“I’m open to many paths,” she said, “but the role I truly hope to step into next is motherhood.”
This wasn’t the first time she’s expressed that desire. Less than a year after getting engaged to Polansky, she told Access Hollywood that she hoped to have children within the next decade.
“I really want to be a mom,” she said softly, smiling. “That’s the clearest vision I have.”
In a previous Elle cover interview, Gaga said she feels “ready” to start a family and wants her future children to grow into whoever they’re meant to be.
“That’s something Michael and I talk about a lot — letting our kids be their own people,” she said. “Growing up today can be overwhelming. Kids are constantly told what to think, what to believe, even how to eat. I just want my children to discover themselves at their own pace.”
