A source previously told PEOPLE that he was receiving care from what was described as the “No. 1 cardiologist in the world” after being hospitalized for an unspecified medical condition.

Zayn Malik has canceled all of his U.S. tour dates after being hospitalized for an undisclosed illness.

On Friday, May 1, the One Direction member shared two Instagram Stories updating fans on his condition and tour plans.

“To my fans: Thank you so much for all the support and love you’ve shown me on the album release and more importantly your love, prayers, and well wishes for my health. I’ve felt it, and it’s meant the world. I’ve been at home recovering and I’m doing well and will be better and stronger than before,” Malik, 33, wrote.

He added that he had to reassess his upcoming schedule and scale back shows on his KONNAKOL Tour. “I want to make sure I still get out and see as many of you as I possibly can. I’m really looking forward to playing these shows for you, and I hope to see the rest of you around the world very soon. Big Love, Z,” he said.

Alongside canceling U.S. dates, Malik also called off shows in Dublin and Birmingham, though he later added a new performance date in Manchester on May 24. His first solo arena tour is now set to begin on May 23 in London.

Earlier, on April 17—the same day his album Konnakol was released—he revealed he was recovering from a mystery illness after posting a hospital bed photo on Instagram Stories. He thanked fans for their support and expressed disappointment at missing scheduled appearances.

He also praised hospital staff, including doctors, nurses, and cardiologists, for their care, though he did not disclose his diagnosis or how long he had been hospitalized.

A representative for Malik did not respond to requests for comment at the time.

Later, a source told PEOPLE that Malik had stepped back from promotional activities, including meet-and-greets and a planned late-night appearance, while seeking treatment from what was described as the “No. 1 cardiologist in the world.” The source added that he was still dealing with health issues and had been advised by doctors to skip his scheduled appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
