The singer expressed, “I appreciate my fans and am grateful for your patience as I recover from this injury. It’s important for me to heal properly so I can deliver the outstanding performance you deserve.”
Usher is focusing on his recovery before starting his Past Present Future Tour. After delaying the tour’s opening performance, the 45-year-old singer has now announced that two more shows, set for Friday, Aug. 16, and Saturday, Aug. 17, will also be postponed due to a neck injury.
In a detailed Instagram post on Thursday, Aug. 15, Usher shared, “Earlier this week, I injured my neck while rehearsing to deliver the ultimate USHER experience to my fans.”
He continued, “I had hoped that physical therapy and medical care would allow me to recover in time for the opening night. Unfortunately, the injury hasn’t healed as expected, and my doctors have advised me to refrain from performing this week.”
The eight-time Grammy winner assured his fans that he is progressing well and is expected to recover quickly.
In his statement, Usher shared, “The positive news is that, with proper rest and treatment, the doctors expect I’ll be ready to start the tour in Washington, DC, on August 20th. I appreciate my fans’ understanding as I focus on healing to deliver the exceptional performance you expect from an USHER show. I’ll be performing in your city very soon.”
He also noted that the three shows originally planned at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta have been rescheduled to December 9, 10, and 12.
Usher announced this tour just weeks after wrapping up his My Way: The Las Vegas Residency.
A few days later, Usher released his ninth studio album, Coming Home, and took the stage at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show.
He also announced that his upcoming concert film, USHER: RENDEZVOUS IN PARIS, will be shown in about 2,000 theaters globally from Thursday, Sept. 12, to Sunday, Sept. 15.
In a press release statement, Usher said, “Paris was an incredible experience for both me as an entertainer and for my fans. I hope those who couldn’t attend in person will get to see how special it was. For those who were there, I hope the film offers a new perspective on the show and the effort that went into it.”
