Snoop Dogg Cuts The Voice Contestant After Tackling ‘One of the Toughest Songs to Sing’

“I’m holding back tears because you’ve set yourself up for greatness, and it’s been an honor to be your coach,” the rapper shared after her performance.

Snoop Dogg made an unexpected decision on The Voice that left viewers and fellow coaches stunned.

On the Monday, Nov. 25 episode of the NBC competition, Aliyah Khaylyn impressed the judges with a powerful rendition of Whitney Houston’s 1992 classic, “I Have Nothing.”

Khaylyn, 23, shared that the song held personal significance, recalling how she and her family would listen to and dance to Houston’s music growing up.

Snoop, 53, praised the Philadelphia singer for taking on “one of the toughest songs you could ever give someone to perform on this show.”

The other coaches were equally impressed. Gwen Stefani admitted, “I’m in shock right now.” Reba McEntire added, “If you don’t have music out soon, I’m gonna cry because I love your voice. You’re so good.”

“I saw greatness,” Snoop said after Aliyah Khaylyn’s performance. “I believe Simone [Biles, guest mentor] gave you advice about standing in your power, and tonight, you did exactly that.”

Fighting back emotion, he added, “I’m holding back tears because you’ve set yourself up for stardom, and it’s been an honor to be your coach. You truly pleased me tonight.”

In a confessional, Snoop reflected further: “Aliyah did exactly what I hoped. The way she performed, she’s definitely in the running for who’s coming with me.”

Despite her standout performance, Snoop Dogg made the tough decision to eliminate Aliyah Khaylyn from the playoff rounds, after having previously stolen her from Team Michael Bublé during the Battle Rounds.

“She was holding her own, so I felt she deserved to be on my team because I could give her exactly what she needed,” Snoop had said when he brought Khaylyn onto his team in October.

Working alongside guest mentor Simone Biles, 27, this past week, Snoop ultimately chose Jeremy Beloate and Christina Eagle to continue on The Voice. Beloate performed “The Impossible Dream (My Quest)” by Josh Groban, while Eagle sang Reba McEntire’s “Fancy.” He eliminated Austyns Stancil and Mikaela Ayira in the process.

In Team McEntire, Edward Preble, Katie O, and Lauren-Michael Sellers were also eliminated during the same episode.
