The “Espresso” singer took the stage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Oct. 16, headlining a sold-out show as part of her Short n’ Sweet tour.

Sabrina Carpenter embraced a country vibe during her Short n’ Sweet Tour stop at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Oct. 16. As a special treat for fans, the “Espresso” singer surprised the audience with a cover of Dolly Parton’s classic “9 to 5,” receiving an enthusiastic response.

According to fan footage shared on social media, the 1980 hit was selected as Carpenter’s surprise cover for the night through a spin-the-bottle game. When the song title appeared on the screen, the crowd erupted in cheers, and the Tall Girl actress encouraged everyone to sing along with her.

During Sabrina Carpenter’s performance of “9 to 5” at the Nashville show, the lyrics were displayed on screens throughout the venue, while dancers surrounded her on stage. Her rendition stayed true to the original Grammy-winning song’s style.

Throughout the Short n’ Sweet Tour, Carpenter has surprised fans with covers of various iconic songs, including ABBA’s “Mamma Mia,” Shania Twain’s “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” Sixpence None the Richer’s “Kiss Me,” and Madonna’s “Material Girl.” After Carpenter performed Twain’s 1997 hit in Toronto last month, the country legend expressed to E! News that it was “just a huge compliment.”

“She’s such a talented person! She’s smart, so it’s a compliment,” Twain remarked about Carpenter.

The Short n’ Sweet Tour will continue its North American leg until November 18, followed by a European leg featuring 14 shows in March 2025.

Earlier this week, Carpenter shared on Instagram after her performances in Philadelphia, Montreal, and Chicago, expressing her excitement about the enthusiastic crowds. “The crowds are crowding,” she wrote, adding, “I love you guys so much.”

In a recent interview with TIME, Carpenter discussed how her chart-topping song “Please Please Please” has been particularly resonant with audiences on tour.

“This really resonates with girls who might feel compelled to return to someone who isn’t right for them, acknowledging that making those mistakes is completely human and often repetitive,” she explained to the outlet.

Carpenter added, “We’ve all been in situations with people we shouldn’t be with. We either learn that lesson the hard way, or we’re fortunate enough to end up marrying that person.”
