The “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out” artist spoke with Rolling Stone about Chuck Timely, the central figure in his latest album, Chuck Timely & The Hourglass.
Role Model is introducing fans to Chuck Timely, the fictional figure who serves as the centerpiece of his upcoming album, Chuck Timely & The Hourglass.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the 29-year-old singer-songwriter, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, explained how the character emerged from the themes explored throughout the record. According to Role Model, the album reflects his experiences over the past two years as he navigated periods of dating, being single, and confronting the passage of time.
He shared that many of the songs were inspired by feelings of uncertainty and the growing pressure to find lasting love as he gets older. Watching friends settle down and attending weddings as an adult also influenced his perspective, prompting him to think more deeply about relationships and the expectations that often accompany them.
To embody those ideas, Role Model created Chuck Timely, a character he describes as somewhat pitiful yet endearing. The musician said the fictional persona helps capture the album’s themes while adding a playful storytelling element to the project.
The album artwork, photographed by Chloe Chippendale, visually reflects that concept. It shows Role Model sipping from a beer bottle while standing beside a newly married couple who appear to be judging him.
As he developed the record, Role Model envisioned Chuck Timely as a guide through different moments in time. He imagined the character as someone who had quietly witnessed history unfold, making him the perfect vehicle for the album’s time-centered narrative.
The concept has extended beyond the music. In April, Role Model launched an Instagram account dedicated to Chuck Timely, posting edited images that place the character in iconic recording sessions alongside legendary artists such as the Beatles and Olivia Rodrigo. The account presents him as a quirky time traveler who somehow managed to appear in the background of major moments throughout music history.
Role Model said the character became a constant topic of conversation during the album’s creation. He and his team frequently expanded Chuck Timely’s fictional lore in the studio, turning the imaginary figure into one of the most entertaining and enjoyable parts of the creative process.
