The pop star’s third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, is set for release on June 12.

Olivia Rodrigo drew creative inspiration from Sex and the City for her latest project.

During an appearance on the April 30 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the singer shared that a particular relationship from the popular HBO series influenced her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.

Host Jimmy Fallon mentioned hearing that one of Rodrigo’s tracks was inspired by the show, but she clarified that its impact went beyond just a single song.

“There are actually several songs inspired by Miranda and Steve,” said the 23-year-old artist, referring to characters portrayed by Cynthia Nixon and David Eigenberg.

Rodrigo added that she’s a huge fan of the series, calling it her favorite and sharing that she’s watched every episode multiple times.

She pointed to a memorable moment when the characters reconcile, explaining how the emotional scene sparked her songwriting. Watching it made her feel compelled to turn that feeling into music.

The three-time Grammy winner also discussed her upcoming Unraveled Tour, which she revealed on April 30. When asked about the meaning behind the tour’s title, Rodrigo kept details under wraps, saying fans would understand soon and expressing excitement about performing the new material live.

Earlier in April, Rodrigo confirmed via Instagram that her third album is on the way. She shared that You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love will be released on June 12 and said she’s proud of the project and eager for listeners to hear it.
