The pop star’s upcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, is set for release on June 12.

No need to second-guess it—Olivia Rodrigo has officially returned with a brand-new album.

The 23-year-old pop star revealed her third studio record, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, on Thursday, April 2, with the album scheduled to drop on June 12. Sharing the news on Instagram, Rodrigo expressed pride in the project and excitement for fans to finally hear it, adding that it’s now available for preorder. She also unveiled the cover art, which shows her happily swinging upside down in a soft pink setting.

The album was created alongside longtime collaborator Daniel Nigro, who also worked with her on Sour (2021) and Guts (2023)—both of which debuted at No. 1.

In an interview with British Vogue, Rodrigo explained that this project pushed her creatively, as she explored writing from a place of happiness. She noted that being in a good emotional state can make songwriting more challenging, since it’s harder to tap into the introspection that often fuels her music. Still, she described the album as filled with emotional love songs, balancing joy with elements of longing and vulnerability.

The “Vampire” singer shared that one track, in particular, tries to capture the true feeling of being in love—something she says brings out deep emotions, from insecurities to moments of pure happiness. According to Rodrigo, love exposes a person’s most authentic self, which can feel both overwhelming and beautiful.

She has previously spoken about her songwriting approach, emphasizing that her best work comes from personal expression rather than trying to meet expectations. For her, writing music starts as a deeply private process, focused on understanding her own emotions before sharing them with the world.
