Katy Perry Delves Into Heartache with Her New Single “Bandaids”: “I Got So Used to You Letting Me Down”

By Website Content Manager

In June, PEOPLE reported that Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom had ended their engagement.

Katy Perry is turning heartbreak into healing — and doing it on her own terms.

The 41-year-old pop icon dropped her newest single, “Bandaids,” along with its cinematic music video on Thursday, Nov. 6. The emotional track appears to reflect on the end of her nine-year relationship with Orlando Bloom.

Directed by Christian Breslauer, the video opens with Perry in a kitchen, accidentally dropping her ring down the sink drain. What follows is a darkly comedic sequence of Final Destination-style near-death mishaps — each one narrowly avoided — until the clip ends with her character being blown away by a gas explosion.

Perry opens the song with raw honesty, singing:
“Hand to God I promise I tried / There’s no stone left unturned / It’s not what you did / It’s what you didn’t / You were there but you weren’t. / Got so used to you letting me down / No use trying to send flowers now / Telling myself you’ll change, you don’t / Bandaids over a broken heart.”

As the track unfolds, the Firework singer reflects on the relationship with bittersweet affection, acknowledging both its highs and inevitable heartbreak.
“If I had to do it all over again / I would still do it all over again / The love that we made was worth it in the end,” she sings, while the video zooms in on a daisy — a likely nod to the couple’s 5-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove.

By the song’s close, Perry admits she did everything she could to keep the relationship alive:
“Tried all the medications / Lowered my expectations / Made every justification / Bleeding out, bleeding out, bleeding out slow / Bandaids over a broken heart.”

“Bandaids” marks Perry’s first release since her sixth studio album, 143, which arrived in September 2024.

Earlier this year, PEOPLE confirmed that Perry and Bloom, 48 — who got engaged in February 2019 — had ended their engagement. Shortly after, the couple’s representatives issued a joint statement noting that the two were “shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting.”

“They will continue to be seen together as a family,” the statement read, “as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.”
