Jonas Brothers Guitar Tech Pushes Back on Claims That Nick Isn’t Playing Live on Stage

In an Instagram reply, Michael Moschella emphasized that the guitar is consistently connected during performances.
Nick Jonas is, in fact, playing live on stage.
Questions surfaced online after an Instagram user shared a video on Saturday, Jan. 10, casting doubt on whether the 33-year-old musician was actually performing on guitar during a Jonas Brothers concert. In response, the band’s backline technician, Michael Moschella, stepped in to address the claims.
The social media post showed a split-screen clip. In the upper portion, Nick is seen playing guitar while performing DNCE’s hit song “Cake by the Ocean” onstage. Below, the Instagram user reacts with a skeptical expression before cutting to himself playing the song’s familiar melody. The caption read simply, “Real playing…”
Moschella responded directly in the comments, clarifying that Nick is not responsible for the song’s lead guitar parts. He explained that “Cake by the Ocean” is a DNCE track fronted by Joe Jonas, with lead guitar handled by bandmate JinJoo.
“As Nick’s guitar tech, I can say with certainty that his guitar is always plugged in, he is actively playing, and his sound is mixed into the front-of-house system that the audience hears,” Moschella wrote.
He added that for this particular song, Nick focuses on rhythm power chords, supporting the band’s guitarist, since he is not featured as a lead player on the DNCE track.
The Jonas Brothers recently concluded their JONAS20: Greetings from Your Hometown Tour, which wrapped last month after 75 North American shows throughout 2025. The tour supported their album Greetings from Your Hometown.
Outside of band activities, Nick is preparing for the release of his upcoming solo album, Sunday Best, scheduled to drop on Feb. 6. The project’s first single, “Gut Punch,” was released on Jan. 1. He also made an appearance at the 2026 Golden Globes alongside his wife, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, on Sunday, Jan. 11.
In a statement about the album, Nick shared his excitement about revealing a more personal side of his life through the music, describing the project as a reflection of recent years — and a culmination of his life experiences so far.
