Hayley Williams of Paramore Addresses Persistent Technical Glitches at Concert: ‘Looks Like Someone’s Losing Their Job’

By Website Content Manager

The band encountered technical difficulties during their performance in Australia on Monday night.

Paramore faced some “hard times” during a recent concert in Melbourne at the Rod Laver Arena on Monday night, the first of three shows in the city. The Nashville alt-pop trio, consisting of lead vocalist Hayley Williams, guitarist Taylor York, and drummer Zac Farro, encountered technical difficulties during their performance of “Hard Times” from their fifth studio album, After Laughter.

The issues arose when the pyrotechnics used in the show ignited at the wrong time, as seen in fan-captured footage shared on X (formerly known as Twitter). In the videos, Williams can be observed nervously laughing as the technical glitches occur. She improvises an awkward response by altering the lyrics of the outro to “Hard Times,” singing, “Somebody’s getting fired / Beyoncé did it so we can too / and I can’t wait to speak with you / it’s the third time this has happened to us.”

Paramore is currently on the Australian leg of their tour in support of their latest album, “This Is Why.” In 2024, they are set to join their longtime friend Taylor Swift on the European leg of her Eras Tour.

Recently, the band released “Re: This Is Why,” a revamped version of their 2023 album featuring remixed and rewritten tracks. The LP includes collaborations with several emerging artists, such as teenage punks and past tour mates The Linda Lindas, British group Wet Leg, pop breakout Remi Wolf (who is also one of Olivia Rodrigo’s upcoming tour openers), indie rocker Bartees Strange, Julien Baker of Boygenius fame, and Claud, signed to Phoebe Bridgers’ record label Saddest Factory. Jazz duo DOMi & JD BECK, nominated for best new artist at the 2023 Grammys, are also part of the lineup.

Indie artists Foals, Panda Bear, and Romy of The XX, as well as producer/TV host Zane Lowe, are among the featured contributors on the record. Paramore shared a statement about the remix album on Instagram along with the album art.

“We’ve long wanted to acknowledge the connection we have with some of the artists who’ve influenced us as a band and/or who have cited our band as an influence,” the pop-punkers shared.

Describing “Re: This Is Why” as almost a remix album, they explained, “Some of the songs have been remixed in a more classical manner, while others were reworked or rewritten. It’s incredible to hear all our worlds colliding. Out 10/6.”

Paramore released their first album in six years, titled “This Is Why,” in February.
