Halsey shared that some of her fans have been “meaner to me than any other people,” leading her to “regret coming back.”

The Grammy-nominated singer recently dropped two new singles, “The End” and “Lucky,” after a break due to various health issues.

Halsey has discovered that fandom can sometimes have a negative side.

The 29-year-old, who has received Grammy nominations, shared her thoughts on Tumblr on July 30 about the unkindness she’s experienced from some fans following her recent return to music, leading her to feel regretful about coming back.

Halsey expressed, “It feels like my own fans are now harsher towards me than anyone else. I’m not implying this applies to everyone, but it seems that what was once just a small group being cruel has now become a larger number of fans who only stick around to express their dislike or criticize me.”

The artist, who uses she/they pronouns, mentioned that it’s challenging to stay engaged in an environment that feels entirely lacking in kindness, empathy, patience, or basic human decency—especially after avoiding such interactions for fear of this very situation.

Halsey, who recently shared their diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder, added, “I nearly lost my life. I’m not going to pursue anything that doesn’t bring me joy anymore. I can’t afford it spiritually.”

Reflecting further, Halsey said, “When I fell ill, my only focus was on getting better so I could return and be part of this. But now I’m unsure what ‘this’ even is, and I just want to retreat and regret coming back.”

In a subsequent post, the New Jersey native informed her fans that she was in the process of traveling for a “PET scan” and “uploading” a “stripped” version of her latest single, “Lucky,” while composing her Tumblr updates.

Halsey noted, “This is the crazy irony of my life right now. I’m a person, not a character in a music video.”

“Lucky” was released the previous week with a music video, serving as the second single from her forthcoming album, following “The End,” which was released in June.

Halsey shared her diagnoses of systemic lupus erythematosus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder shortly after the release of “The End.”

In her announcement, she stated, “In 2022, I was initially diagnosed with Lupus SLE and subsequently with a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Both conditions are currently being managed or are in remission, and it’s likely I’ll have them for the rest of my life.”

She continued, “After two years, I’m feeling better and am more grateful than ever to have music as an outlet. I’m excited to return to where I feel I belong: with all of you 🤍, singing and pouring my heart out.”
