Ed Sheeran Confesses to Running a Secret Instagram and Shares the Surprising Accounts He Tracks

By Website Content Manager

The singer explained that his fake account allows him to stay connected to the corners of the internet he finds interesting.

Ed Sheeran Reveals He Runs a Secret Instagram Account

During an appearance on SiriusXM’s Small Stage Series in New York City, the 34-year-old singer opened up about his social media habits—including the fact that he maintains a “Finsta,” or fake Instagram profile.

When host Andy Cohen asked directly if he had one, Sheeran admitted, “Yes.” Pressed further about what he uses it for, the Shape of You star clarified that it isn’t for spying on people, but rather for keeping up with trends in music and culture.

Sheeran explained that before creating the hidden account, he often felt out of the loop on emerging artists and new songs. “I’m plugged into areas of the internet that interest me,” he said, adding that the account helps him stay current.

As for his favorite online spaces, Sheeran shared that he follows British rap and Irish folk music communities, along with watch blogs. He noted that his algorithm largely reflects his passions: “It’s very much music and watches.”

Sheeran’s Complicated Relationship with Social Media

Although Ed Sheeran actively maintains accounts on platforms like Facebook and TikTok, he’s also known for stepping back from social media—especially taking extended breaks from Instagram toward the end of the year.

In early 2023, Sheeran revealed that one of his hiatuses lasted longer than usual. In a video posted on Instagram, he admitted, “I realize I haven’t been that engaged in my social media or my fan base online over the last couple of years.” He joked that his rare posts were often quirky or silly, but added that personal struggles made him withdraw. “I had some turbulent things going on in my personal life, so I just didn’t really feel like being online and pretending to be something I’m not, when I wasn’t feeling like that.”

This isn’t the first time Sheeran has spoken about the downsides of social media. In a past interview with The Sun, he confessed that online negativity had driven him away from certain platforms. “I go on it, and there’s nothing but people saying mean things,” he said. “One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it.”
