Céline Dion Criticizes Unauthorized AI-Generated Music Imitating Her Voice

By Website Content Manager

“Please note that these recordings are not genuine, have not been authorized, and are not part of her official discography,” the statement clarified.

Céline Dion has spoken out against the use of her voice in AI-generated music.

In an Instagram post shared on Friday, March 7, the five-time Grammy winner addressed artificial intelligence-generated tracks that falsely claim to feature her voice and have been circulating online.

“It has come to our attention that unauthorized, AI-generated music claiming to feature Celine Dion’s performances, name, and likeness is currently being shared online and on various digital platforms,” the post stated.

“Please be aware that these recordings are fake, unauthorized, and not part of her official discography,” the statement concluded.

Dion’s statement follows rising concerns about AI-generated music being created without artists’ consent and profiting from their likeness as the technology continues to evolve.

In April 2024, more than 200 artists united to sign an open letter, organized by the Artists Rights Alliance, condemning the use of AI in music creation that infringes on artists’ rights.

“We, the undersigned members of the artist and songwriting communities, call on AI developers, technology companies, platforms, and digital music services to stop using artificial intelligence to exploit and undermine the rights of human artists,” the letter stated.

The letter also acknowledged AI’s potential when used ethically, saying, “Make no mistake: we believe that, when used responsibly, AI has enormous potential to enhance human creativity and foster exciting new experiences for music fans worldwide.”

The letter also warned, “Unfortunately, some platforms and developers are employing AI to sabotage creativity and undermine artists, songwriters, musicians, and rightsholders.”

Among the many artists who signed the petition were Billie Eilish, Billy Porter, Brothers Osborne, Camila Cabello, Darius Rucker, FINNEAS, Imagine Dragons, J Balvin, Jonas Brothers, Jon Bon Jovi, Katy Perry, Metro Boomin, Miranda Lambert, Noah Kahan, Norah Jones, Pearl Jam, Sheryl Crow, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, and Zayn Malik.

In February, several UK artists took a creative stand by releasing a silent album to protest UK copyright laws related to AI. The 47-minute album contained 12 track listings, each titled with a message that read: “The British government must not legalize music theft to benefit AI companies.”

This isn’t the first time Céline Dion has spoken out about her music being used without permission. In August 2024, she criticized former President Donald Trump for playing her iconic song “My Heart Will Go On” without her consent during a campaign rally.

“Today, Céline Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Céline Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana,” the statement read.
