A$AP Rocky hinted that Rihanna is currently back in the recording studio, fueling excitement among fans who have been eagerly waiting for a new album. His comments suggest that the singer may finally be working on the long-anticipated follow-up to her 2016 release, ANTI.
Speaking during an interview on The Jason Lee Show, released on Aug. 5, Rocky dismissed the popular belief that he was the reason Rihanna has delayed releasing another album. Fans have often joked that her relationship with him, raising their children, and managing several successful businesses kept her away from music, but Rocky insisted those assumptions are inaccurate.
When asked about the theory, the rapper responded that Rihanna is actively recording. He jokingly admitted he might have revealed more than he should have, adding that she has been hard at work creating new material and teasing that he could end up in trouble for sharing the update.
If Rocky’s comments are accurate, they represent one of the most promising developments fans have heard regarding Rihanna’s music in years. Her most recent studio album, ANTI, was released in 2016 and became one of the defining projects of her career. The record reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart for two weeks and produced several hit songs, including “Work,” “Needed Me,” and “Love on the Brain.”
Although no full-length album has followed ANTI, Rihanna has remained highly visible. In 2023, she made her long-awaited performance comeback as the headliner of the Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show, delivering a medley of her biggest hits. During the performance, she also surprised audiences by revealing she was expecting her second child with Rocky.
Away from the stage, Rihanna has continued expanding her business empire through Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty while embracing motherhood. She and Rocky welcomed their first son, RZA, in 2022, their second son, Riot, in 2023, and their daughter, Rocki, in 2025.
Despite the lengthy gap between albums, Rihanna has not completely stepped away from recording. In 2025, she released “Friend of Mine” for The Smurfs soundtrack. Before that, she returned in 2022 with “Lift Me Up,” written for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The emotional ballad received widespread praise and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.
