‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ champion Sasha Colby makes an appearance in the video for Sivan’s latest single, which also features vocals from his longtime friend Charli xcx.
Troye Sivan has officially launched a new chapter in his music career with the release of his latest single, “She’s the Best.”
The Grammy-nominated singer, 31, unveiled the track on Friday, Aug. 14, accompanied by a visually striking music video featuring actress Nicole Kidman and RuPaul’s Drag Race champion Sasha Colby. The song follows Sivan’s 2023 album, Something to Give Each Other, and celebrates his admiration for women, with a particular emphasis on transgender women.
Throughout the track, Sivan sings about a woman he watches and admires, building to the catchy refrain, “Wow, that girl, she’s the best.”
The accompanying video begins with Kidman, 59, stepping out of a car while wearing sunglasses and smoking a cigarette. Sivan watches her from inside a nearby café before she makes her way into a nightclub. Inside, she passes through a dressing area filled with women and drag performers, including Colby, who are preparing for the night.
Kidman eventually settles at the bar while Sivan performs onstage, singing directly to her. The video continues with Sivan observing and interacting with different women before the two share a dance near the end. Kidman gently touches his face during the moment, followed by Sivan appearing in an elaborate drag look featuring a platinum-blonde hairstyle.
The final scenes show Sivan and Kidman together in a kitchen, with Kidman smoking another cigarette. The singer previously embraced drag in the visual for his 2023 hit “One of Your Girls.”
Sivan also discussed the making of the video during a preview screening held at New York City’s Metrograph. During a Q&A, he explained that securing Kidman for the project was a source of uncertainty because of her demanding schedule.
The singer recalled receiving text messages from Kidman before filming and said he initially feared each notification might reveal that she could no longer participate. Fortunately, Kidman ultimately made it to the shoot.
“She’s the Best” was created by Sivan alongside Jack Antonoff, Styalz Fuego and George Daniel of The 1975. Additional musical contributions came from Sivan collaborator Leland and Kaelyn Behr.
Charli xcx, who is also a longtime friend and former tourmate of Sivan, contributes vocals to the song’s closing section. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Sivan confirmed that Charli performs the outro, adding another personal connection to the track.
Sivan explained that he and Daniel wanted to find meaningful ways to incorporate women they care about into the music. He described Charli as an especially important person to both of them, making her contribution to the song particularly significant.
