The pop superstar is set to drop the track as the third official single from The Life of a Showgirl.
Taylor Swift has unveiled a nostalgic music video for “Elizabeth Taylor,” the third official single from her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.
On Tuesday, March 31, the 36-year-old pop star surprised fans by debuting the video, initially making it available exclusively to subscribers on Spotify and Apple Music.
Although she has become known for elaborate visuals throughout this era—including the videos for “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Opalite”—this release takes a different approach. Instead of a cinematic narrative, Swift’s latest video serves as a tribute to its namesake, legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor.
The visual compiles archival footage of Taylor across various stages of her life, blending public appearances with scenes from some of her most iconic films, such as Cleopatra and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.
Swift has yet to publicly address the release, and it remains uncertain when the video will be uploaded to YouTube. The rollout follows a similar pattern to her earlier “Opalite” visual, suggesting it may arrive on the platform within a few days.
While she hasn’t directly explained the strategy, the decision comes after YouTube announced that views would no longer contribute to Billboard chart rankings.
Both “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Opalite” previously reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, with the former maintaining the top spot for 10 weeks. Meanwhile, “Elizabeth Taylor” has already made an impact on the chart, climbing as high as No. 3 so far.
During promotion for The Life of a Showgirl, Swift revealed that she contacted Taylor’s estate to secure approval for the track, which includes several references to the actress. In an interview with Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show, she shared that the estate responded warmly and granted permission.
Christopher Wilding, Taylor’s son, also praised the song in an interview, noting that he listened to it as soon as it was released. He described Swift and his mother as sharing a similar spirit, highlighting how the singer captured parallels in their careers and personal lives, particularly in terms of female empowerment.
