The pop icon came to the defense of the ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ star after the latter addressed pregnancy speculation in a recent TikTok video.
Taylor Swift made it clear that she isn’t supportive of people speculating about Lady Gaga’s, or any woman’s, body.
The pop superstar, aged 34, stood up for the Joker: Folie à Deux star, aged 38, on Wednesday, June 5, following Gaga’s TikTok video addressing pregnancy rumors that emerged over the weekend.
In the comments section of Gaga’s TikTok, Swift expressed her stance, saying, “Can we all agree that it’s invasive & irresponsible to comment on a woman’s body? Gaga doesn’t owe anyone an explanation & neither does any woman.”
Gaga recently addressed pregnancy rumors in a TikTok video, playfully referencing Swift’s song “Down Bad” from her newly-released album The Tortured Poets Department. The video featured large letters at the bottom stating, “Not pregnant — just down bad cryin at the gym,” alongside a close-up of Gaga’s bleached eyebrows.
In the brief 10-second clip, Gaga is seen partially lip-syncing to audio that says, “I don’t have to find an aesthetic; I am the aesthetic. I mean, I’m sure there’s somebody out here right now who is going into Pinterest trying to type up all these adjectives to describe me.”
The Love For Sale singer seized the moment to urge her followers to prioritize important issues, directing them to “register to vote at www.headcount.org.” She reiterated this call to action in her caption, urging fans to “Register to vote or check if you’re registered EASILY at www.headcount.org.”
Following widespread pregnancy rumors sparked by photos of the singer at her sister Natali Germanotta’s wedding in Maine on June 3, Gaga’s TikTok video emerged.
Subsequently, her makeup artist, Sarah Tanno, defended her in a post on X (formerly Twitter), expressing disappointment that Gaga felt compelled to address the rumors due to comments about her body. Tanno wrote, “Honestly, it’s really sad that she had to address this because people were commenting about her body.”
Tanno, aged 43, further emphasized her point, stating, “People should not be allowed to comment on other people’s body. Fans have been saying for years that she was pregnant, just because of how she looks in certain outfits. Why spread a rumor about somebody that you care about or love? It does affect people’s mental health; people should not be body-shaming others or assuming they are pregnant when they aren’t!”
She concluded her message by reiterating, “Even if she was pregnant, it’s none of your business to know at all. Why are people obsessed with her being pregnant or not?? I don’t get it.”
Gaga has previously addressed speculation regarding her body. In a 2017 Instagram post, she conveyed a message to her fans stating, “I’ve heard discussions about my body, so I want to express that I’m proud of my body, and you should be proud of yours too, regardless of who you are or what you do.” She further emphasized, “I could provide numerous reasons why you don’t need to conform to anyone or anything to achieve success. Embrace your authenticity wholeheartedly; that’s what champions are made of. Thank you all for your support. Love you guys! Xoxo, Gaga.”
