Sabrina Carpenter Stuns in Vintage Bob Mackie Gown for Her Grand Ole Opry Debut

Sabrina Carpenter made her first appearance at the legendary Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on Tuesday, Oct. 7, receiving a full backstage tour of the historic venue.

The 26-year-old artist dazzled in an archival Bob Mackie creation — a black, one-shoulder jersey gown embellished with oversized crystals and diamond-like gems. According to Mackie’s Instagram, the gown was originally designed in the 1970s for Ann-Margret, and the designer, now 86, even shared his original sketch of the glamorous piece.

To complete the look, Carpenter paired the gown with sparkling heels and her signature retro-inspired blonde waves. Sharing her excitement on Instagram the next day, she wrote, “Last night I made my @opry debut in Nashville and what a magical night it was.”

Introduced onstage by Sheryl Crow, Carpenter expressed her admiration for the music legend, calling herself “the biggest fan ever.” She went on to thank her band, fans, and the Opry audience for their warm welcome: “Thank you to the showstopping band that accompanied me last night… and for the Opry frequenters who opened me with welcome ears and hearts — I’m a lucky girl!”

Her Instagram post featured photos from the performance, a behind-the-scenes moment with Crow, and a throwback shot of Dolly Parton performing at the Opry early in her career — a fitting tribute to one of her idols.

The Grand Ole Opry, which began broadcasting in 1925, has launched the careers of countless country legends including Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and more recently, Kacey Musgraves and Kelsea Ballerini. Its current home, the Grand Ole Opry House, opened in 1974.

Carpenter and Parton previously teamed up on a remix of “Please Please Please” from Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet album, with the two appearing together in a February music video. Carpenter celebrated the collaboration on Instagram, writing, “Dolly and me singing in a pickup truck!!!!!! I am so honored to have one of my biggest idols on a song that means so much to me.”

The Nashville performance came just days after Carpenter shared the stage with Shania Twain at Austin City Limits on Oct. 4, marking an unforgettable week of country music milestones for the rising pop star.
