Sabrina Carpenter Reflects on the “Small Steps” That Earned Her a Best New Artist Grammy Nomination After a Decade-Long Career

The pop star recently teamed up with T-Mobile as a sponsor for her Short n’ Sweet tour, which is set to continue in Europe this spring.
Although Sabrina Carpenter is nominated for Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammy Awards, she’s no newcomer to the music industry.
At 25, Carpenter had already released five albums when her hit single “Espresso” soared on the charts in April, elevating her to new heights of fame. This momentum only increased with the release of her sixth album, Short n’ Sweet, in August.
While it might seem unusual for an artist with a decade of experience to be considered for a newcomer award, Carpenter is content with her long and steady journey.
“I’ve always stayed true to myself and believed in my work since I was young,” she tells PEOPLE in an email interview. “I’ve come to realize that it’s all about those small baby steps over time that lead you to this point.”
Sabrina Carpenter shared that the most memorable part of her Short n’ Sweet tour was “connecting with my fans” every night, complimenting their creative outfits and the “hilarious” signs they held up from the crowd. The first leg of her tour, which marked her debut arena tour, ran from September to November, and she’s gearing up to head back on the road in Europe this March.
“I can’t wait to see all my fans in Europe. There are a couple of cities I haven’t visited in a long time, so I’m excited to see which crowd is the loudest,” she says.
As she looks ahead to 2025, Carpenter admits she’s still processing the whirlwind of the past year.
“I don’t think I’ve fully reflected yet, as I’m trying to stay present in the moment,” she explains. “But I’m just happy to see my songs connecting with so many people from all walks of life. That’s why I love to write songs.”
