Rihanna mentioned that her Met Gala look for 2024 will largely depend on how her makeup and hair turn out for the event.
Rihanna revealed her approach to her 2024 Met Gala look, opting for a “less is more” style. During a conversation with Extra at the launch event for her new Fenty Beauty Soft’lit Foundation in Los Angeles on April 26, the singer, 36, shared her plans for the prestigious fashion event.
“I’m actually keeping it real simple this year. … It’s gonna come down to what my makeup and what my hair is going to do,” Rihanna explained.
She disclosed that she has already selected two gowns for the occasion, describing them as “Very simple-ish … compared to everything I have done.” Rihanna playfully added, “I am showing up for dinner,” hinting at her elegant yet understated approach to this year’s Met Gala.
The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event held in New York City to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, officially known as The Anna Wintour Costume Center, named after Vogue’s editor-in-chief who has chaired the gala since 1995.
The theme for the 2024 Met Gala, titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” was announced in November 2023. This theme will be reflected in the Costume Institute exhibit, featuring around 250 items spanning over 400 years of history.
In February 2024, Vogue announced the dress code for the Met Gala as “The Garden of Time,” inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name.
The co-chairs for the 2024 Met Gala include Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth. This year will mark Hemsworth’s first time as a co-chair and Bad Bunny’s third appearance. Lopez, 54, and Zendaya, 27, are seasoned veterans of the Met Gala.
The 2024 Met Gala is scheduled to take place on May 6, 2024, in New York City.
