Olivia Rodrigo Delivers a Piano Rendition of ‘Vampire’ and Causes a Stir Onstage with ‘All-American Bitch’ on SNL

The vocalist adorned various stylish pieces during her performances, subtly incorporating elements from her second studio album, ‘Guts.’

Olivia Rodrigo made a return to Saturday Night Live, infusing a playful twist into two of her chart-topping songs. The 20-year-old songstress graced the SNL stage for the second time as the musical guest, sharing it with host Adam Driver. In a departure from the usual renditions, Rodrigo offered a unique interpretation of her tracks “Vampire” and “All-American Bitch.”

Kicking off the night, Rodrigo presented a slow, piano-accompanied version of “Vampire.” Dressed in a glitzy silver halter dress with her hair elegantly styled in a bun, she delivered the song’s melody with a heartfelt tone. Notably, she sported multiple rings on her right hand, spelling out the word “Guts,” a nod to her second studio album.

Creating an ambiance reminiscent of a dream, the stage was adorned with blue fog enveloping the floor beneath the piano, while numerous silver cut-out stars dangled from the stage ceiling.

In her second performance of “All-American Bitch,” Olivia Rodrigo brought a touch of drama to the stage. The initial scene was simple and innocent, featuring Rodrigo seated behind a table adorned with cakes and various treats, dressed in a high-neck pink gown while sipping tea.

However, as the song’s chorus unfolded, Rodrigo showcased her darker side. She energetically leaped onto the table, sprawled across it, and wielded a knife to slash through the cakes. Dancing amidst the confectioneries, the lighting transitioned from a bright white to rapid red flashes, reflecting the unfolding chaos.

In a theatrical gesture to underscore the song’s lyrics, Rodrigo smeared blood-red cake on her face, dress, and white stockings, possibly symbolizing the visceral essence of her album, “Guts.” Upon concluding her dynamic performances, she playfully stuck her tongue out at the cameras.

Rodrigo marked her SNL debut in 2021 with performances of fan-favorites “Driver’s License” and “Good 4 U.” Notably, it was the first live broadcast performance of “Good 4 U.” Post-show, she took to social media to express her emotions about the experience on the popular NBC sketch comedy show.

In an Instagram Story featuring a photo of an SNL card with her name on it, she wrote, “Well, that was the most nerve-wracking/emotional/happy experience of my life. Thank u 4ever.”

Prior to her SNL musical debut, the High School Musical: The Musical star had already left her mark on the show by inspiring a Bridgerton skit in February of that same year. Coincidentally, the skit aired on her birthday.

“DRIVERS LICENSE SNL SKETCH IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER IM SHAKING,” she enthusiastically shared on social media (formerly Twitter), expressing that she was “losing her mind” over the memorable moment.

Rodrigo has ample reason to celebrate, having recently garnered six Grammy Award nominations. In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE at the premiere of Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in Los Angeles in November, she expressed her gratitude for the recognition.

“Yeah. So insane. It’s just such an honor and such a pleasure to be recognized by the music community in such an incredible way,” Rodrigo shared with PEOPLE. “I’m very grateful.”
