After appearing together in Carpenter’s ‘Feather’ music video, Manheim shared with PEOPLE that it’s been “really cool” to witness his fellow Disney Channel star’s rapid rise to fame.

Milo Manheim is celebrating Sabrina Carpenter’s ongoing musical achievements. In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE about his Zombies franchise, the 23-year-old actor commended his fellow Disney Channel alum, 25, for her recent hit singles “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” with the latter reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“She’s come so far,” Manheim remarked about the Girl Meets World actress-turned-popstar. “It’s really cool to see her skyrocket. She’s so talented, so lovely. She deserves it.”

Both stars began their careers on Disney Channel, with Carpenter making her mark in the 2014 Boy Meets World spinoff before transitioning to music. Her fifth studio album, Emails I Can’t Send, has received critical acclaim, featuring popular singles like “Nonsense” and “Feather,” in which Manheim appeared in the music video.

Reflecting on the October 2023 music video, where Sabrina Carpenter played a femme fatale taking revenge on boys who wronged her, Milo Manheim describes the experience as “really fun and easy.”

“I didn’t even know what I was doing that day. I was just like, I trust Sabrina,” he explains. “I pulled up and we shot that, and it was awesome.”

In addition to appearing in her music video, Milo Manheim shared that he had the chance to see Sabrina Carpenter perform at Jingle Ball last year, and he got “really emotional” during her set.

“I was like, damn, she’s come so far,” he said. Manheim also mentioned that he and his Zombies co-star Meg Donnelly have had a longstanding friendship with Carpenter, often enjoying game nights at Donnelly’s house.

“We always got each other when you go back to it,” Manheim said, emphasizing the strong bond he and his fellow Disney Channel actors share.

“It’s like your family,” he continued. “A lot of these Disney kids didn’t even go to school, so it really does feel like your school friends going out into the world. And when you see them kill it, it’s just like, hell yeah!”

After opening for Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour, Sabrina Carpenter is now gearing up for her own headlining 2024 Short ‘n’ Sweet tour. Milo Manheim expressed his excitement about Carpenter’s upcoming tour, mentioning that he would “love to” attend one of her concerts. For now, he’s happily cheering her on from the sidelines.

“I wish her well,” Manheim said about Carpenter’s career. “I hope she keeps killing it — I mean, she’s going to.”
