Billy Ray Cyrus celebrated turning 64 on Monday, Aug. 25 with a deeply personal present from his daughter Miley Cyrus — an unreleased track featuring members of Fleetwood Mac.
The country star shared on Instagram that Miley, 32, surprised him with a song she penned called “Secrets,” and even recruited two of his favorite musicians, Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood, to play on the recording.
“For my birthday, Miley gave me the gift of music and wrote me a song called Secrets, and got my favorite musicians Fleetwood Mac to play on it! I love you Mile ❤️,” he wrote alongside a video of himself walking through a grassy field while listening to the track on his phone.
The song carries an ‘80s rock vibe, weaving in shimmering guitar riffs and heartfelt lyrics: “Secrets, I want to keep your secrets/Like sunlight in the shadows/Like footsteps in the grass/I won’t ever break my promise/Like a songbird in the silence/Like stones against the glass.”
Miley first hinted at the project during a June conversation on Monica Lewinsky’s podcast, explaining that the song was inspired by a period of tension between her and her father — something they’ve since reconciled. She said she wanted her dad to trust her enough to share truths that once weighed heavily on their family.
Reflecting on the last decade, Miley acknowledged her parents’ 2022 divorce and the strain it placed on family relationships. “Half of us weren’t speaking to each other at one point, and we cleaned all that up,” she said. “That was a really important part of my year — putting those lines of communication back together.”
The Flowers singer added that she has learned to approach family healing by leaning into joy: “I just kind of bust through the pile that’s stacked, and just go, ‘I’m here. You’re here. Let’s start by having a good time together.’”
In June, Billy Ray and girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley, 60, attended the London premiere of Miley’s latest album Something Beautiful to show their support. Hurley also left a sweet note in the comments of Billy Ray’s birthday post, writing, “Happy Birthday and what a beautiful video to a beautiful song by your beautiful daughter ❤️❤️❤️.”
To top off his milestone birthday, Billy Ray released a refreshed version of his 1992 hit “Achy Breaky Heart,” paired with a nostalgic video featuring both throwback clips and moments with Hurley.
