Lizzo Explains the True Inspiration Behind Her Instagram Handle “LizzoBeEating”

By Website Content Manager

The singer and rapper responded to a fan on X after they admitted they had interpreted her Instagram username incorrectly.

Lizzo is clearing up the real story behind her Instagram username.

On Thursday, May 21, the 38-year-old artist responded to a fan on X who admitted they had misunderstood the meaning of her handle for years.

“just found out lizzo’s instagram name is lizzo be eating and not lizzo beating,” the user posted alongside a screenshot of her Instagram profile.

The singer, born Melissa Jefferson, reposted the tweet and revealed how the nickname actually began.

“Fun fact: I originally created my Instagram as a food blog when I was struggling financially so I could get free meals, but then my music career took off,” she explained.

Earlier this year, the Grammy-winning performer announced her upcoming album, 𝖡̶𝖨̶𝖳̶𝖢̶𝖧̶, on her 38th birthday. She also shared that the project aims to reclaim a word often used negatively against women.

“Reclaiming the word ‘bitch’ is empowering,” Lizzo said at the time. “It transforms a term once meant to tear women down into a statement of confidence and fearless self-love.”

She continued, “Naming the album Bitch felt right because I’ve embraced the word on my own terms — and because I truly am 100% that bitch.”

The album artwork features a hand raising her body like a middle finger gesture. Alongside the reveal, she wrote on Instagram, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! To celebrate, I’m introducing my new album 𝖡̶𝖨̶𝖳̶𝖢̶𝖧̶ — arriving June 5.”

Earlier this month, Lizzo also spoke about the album’s musical direction, saying fans can still expect her signature style.

“I think it’ll always have the Lizzo sound,” she shared. “I don’t really know how to be anyone else.”

She added that after previewing a new track online, one listener commented that “the ’90s are back,” which she found amusing.

The “Good as Hell” artist said she prefers to leave it up to listeners to define the sound of her music.

Fun Fact: I started my ig as a food blog when I was broke so I could eat for free but then my music blew up 🤪 https://t.co/chkNwxIcws
