Kesha Marks 15 Years Since Debut Album Animal: ‘I Never Imagined What These Songs Would Bring Into My Life’

By Website Content Manager

“Thrilled that it’s resonated with you the way it has, and that it still does,” the pop star wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday, Jan. 5.

Kesha is honoring the album that launched her career.

On Sunday, Jan. 5, the 37-year-old pop artist marked the 15th anniversary of her debut album Animal, which featured hits like “Your Love Is My Drug,” “Tik Tok,” “Blah Blah Blah,” and “Party at a Rich Dude’s House,” with a heartfelt Instagram post.

She wrote, “I spent my whole life learning the craft of songwriting from my mom, who is an iconic songwriter in her own right. So, when Animal was released, it became a blend of the sounds of growing up, falling in love, experiencing heartbreak, and coming of age. I had no idea what these songs would lead to or what kind of life I would build for myself just by sharing them with the world.” Kesha also paid tribute to her mother, Pebe Sebert, who co-wrote the 1980 Dolly Parton classic “Old Flames Can’t Hold a Candle to You.”

She went on to say, “I’m so glad I did, and so grateful that it resonated with you the way it has, and still does. Just a few days ago, TiK ToK had its highest streaming day in 15 years. It really shows that we all experience the same significant emotions as we grow. I’m thrilled to have shared that journey with all of you.”

“Happy anniversary, Animal. I had no idea you were that amazing, but it turns out you absolutely are,” Kesha finished.

In addition to the caption, the “Praying” singer posted a nostalgic video in which she was asked about the joy Animal brought to her fans.

“The only reason I made this record was to make kids have fun, throw dance parties, and inspire people to just be happy,” she said in the clip, which showcased a montage of moments from that time. “This whole album is just a very youthful, rebellious record. I want it to be one of those albums that you put on, and no matter what you’re doing or where you are, it makes you happy.”

On Thursday, Jan. 2, Kesha marked a milestone as her debut single, “Tik Tok,” had its biggest streaming day ever on Spotify.

“15 years ago, I got my first #1 song! YOU all did that. And the fact that Tik Tok had its largest streaming day EVER yesterday blows my mind. Thank you for supporting my art; you give me purpose,” she shared on X.

Kesha went on: “This song is for the wild ones, the party girls, the ones who go too hard, laugh too loud, and say too much. I love you. Thank you, animals!!! Now, Alexa, play Tik Tok LOUDER, PLEASE.”
