In August, Kelly Clarkson revealed that her viral Kellyoke covers will now be featured on SiriusXM’s Kelly Clarkson Connection channel, allowing fans to enjoy her performances in a new format.

Although Kelly Clarkson makes her daily Kellyoke segments appear effortless, a lot of preparation goes into each performance. On Monday, Sept. 9, the singer and talk show host shared a behind-the-scenes video revealing the step-by-step process of creating her viral segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

“When they first talked to me about doing a talk show, I asked, ‘Why?’ and then said, ‘If I’m going to do it, I want to do it my way,'” the 42-year-old Clarkson explained. “We had already been doing something called fan request on tour for years.”

Clarkson then introduced Jason Halbert, her musical director, who plays a key role in bringing Kellyoke to life.

Jason Halbert, Kelly Clarkson’s musical director, explained the creative process behind Kellyoke, emphasizing the importance of keeping the music fresh. “I’m a huge fan of music, so I think it’s really important not to get bored with your catalog,” he said. He recalled discussing with Clarkson and producer Alex Duda how to incorporate music into the show, opting to replace the traditional monologue with the fan-request segment, which they renamed Kellyoke.

Halbert then outlined the step-by-step process, starting with song selection, editing it down to a two-minute version, tracking and recording the music, creating a chart, recording a reference track, and finally, Clarkson reviewing it at the end of the day.

He added that he keeps all song requests received via email and social media, and Clarkson reviews the list herself, choosing based on what resonates with her at that moment. “When I hear something that moves me, I really want to perform it,” Clarkson said, revealing that for this episode, she chose to cover Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things.”

On August 8, Kelly Clarkson revealed that her popular Kellyoke covers will be available on SiriusXM’s Kelly Clarkson Connection channel.

In an Instagram post, Clarkson expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m thrilled to share the Kellyokes because it’s the one thing I get asked about the most—’Can you put them all out on a CD?’ Oh my God, a CD. I’m so from the ’90s.”

She added, “Kelly Clarkson Connection was the perfect place for this since it’s my station. Why wouldn’t we put them here so my fans can listen? People have been asking nonstop, so we’re starting with several, and we’ll gradually add more. This will be the spot to hear the Kellyokes mixed and mastered specifically for this station.”
