“I’m 40, and I’m still able to make music because of Madonna,” Katy Perry stated in a recent interview after releasing her latest album, 143.

Madonna had a significant influence on Katy Perry’s career.

In a recent interview on the Australian TV show The Project, the 39-year-old Woman’s World singer reflected on how Madonna supported her during her early career.

“Madonna was really kind to me — though it took a moment because she was testing me at first. But eventually, she became super nice,” Perry shared, explaining how the 66-year-old “Material Girl” singer gave her an early career boost. “She actually gave a shout-out to one of my songs, and that was the real start of my career. It helped put me on the map.”

In a recent interview on the Australian TV show The Project, the 39-year-old Woman’s World artist reflected on the support she received from the Queen of Pop during her early days in the industry.

“Madonna was really kind to me — though it took a little time because she was testing me at first. But then, she became super nice,” Perry shared. She added that the 66-year-old “Material Girl” singer gave her a major boost by shouting out one of her songs. “That was really the beginning of my career, and it’s what started to break me into the industry.”

The former American Idol judge emphasized that she often reflects on those moments when meeting new pop artists: “That might be the only interaction we ever have, and while people may not remember exactly what you say, they will always recall how you made them feel. That lesson is deeply ingrained in me.”
