Ice Spice and Taylor Swift’s friendship continues to shine.
The 25-year-old rapper appears on the latest cover of Nylon, where she opened up about her bond with the pop superstar, 35. The two have worked together on the “Karma” remix and shared time at major events, including multiple Super Bowls.
“What I love about Taylor is how genuine she is,” said Ice, whose real name is Isis Gaston. “One of the biggest things she ever told me — and I still think about it all the time — was, ‘As long as you keep making music, everything’s going to be fine.’”
Still, their friendship isn’t just about career advice. “Whenever we hang out, it’s not like she’s constantly giving me guidance,” Ice explained. “We’re just talking about whatever’s going on in the moment, like the food we’re eating.”
Those conversations, however, stick with her. “If I’m doubting myself, lacking confidence, or even facing writer’s block, that advice really comes back to me,” she shared. “She told me that years ago, and it’s stayed with me ever since.”
In a Rolling Stone cover story last year, Ice defended their connection against critics who suggested it was for publicity. “Why wouldn’t she want to be my friend?” she said at the time. “Taylor genuinely likes me. She’s hilarious, and our personalities just click.”
She also recalled how their collaboration on “Karma” — which climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 — came about. While in the studio, she got a call from her manager. “I thought it was going to be bad news because he usually texts,” she said. “But he goes, ‘Taylor Swift has a track she wants you on from her album.’ I played it cool on the phone like, ‘Oh, that’s cool.’ But the second I hung up, I was bawling.”
Ice laughed as she remembered that moment: “I was in my walk-in closet just crying, like, ‘This cannot be real life.’ Riot even filmed it — that’ll probably end up in a documentary one day.”
For her part, Swift praised the young rapper in the same interview. “I love meeting artists who are curious not only about music but about the business behind it,” Swift said. “The industry often tries to convince people to just stay creative and let labels or managers handle the rest, but Ice really wants to understand it all.”
