In her new W Magazine cover feature, the Pink Pony Club artist reminisced about sharing her first kiss at age 15 — in her parents’ driveway.
Chappell Roan isn’t impressed by social connections.
In a recent interview for W Magazine, the 27-year-old artist behind “Pink Pony Club” shared what annoys her the most—and it’s something she finds instantly off-putting.
“I don’t trust people who name-drop,” Roan explained.
The Grammy-winning singer went on to say that she doesn’t care about status or who someone knows. “Whether it’s in dating or friendships, it’s a major red flag for me. If someone’s name-dropping, chances are we’re not going to get along.”
Roan also reminisced about her first kiss, which took place in her “parents’ driveway” when she was 15. “I was the one who made the first move,” she shared. “I tend to take the initiative!”
She went on to explain, “We’d been hanging out and going on dates every weekend for about a month, so I figured it was time for a kiss. It was a fun moment,” said the artist behind “Casual.” “But I’d say kissing girls is even more fun.”
Earlier this year, Roan received her first Grammy Award for Best New Artist, following a breakout year with tracks like “Pink Pony Club,” “Hot to Go!” and “Good Luck, Babe!”
During the award ceremony, she used her moment to advocate for healthcare access for musicians, reading from a speech she had written in her personal diary — the same one she’s been using for years.
“I’ve been journaling for, oh my gosh, about 15 years,” Roan shared with W Magazine. “I started back in middle school. It’s fun to look back at what my 12-year-old self wrote. Back then, I said every day was ‘horrible.'”
She added, “It’s wild to look back and see what used to upset me. At the time, it felt as intense as the drama in my life now.”
Roan also spoke candidly about her ongoing fear of “losing my memory,” explaining that she started journaling to document all the significant moments in her life.
