“The pop singer discussed her experience with a highly visible relationship, expressing her concern about not wanting her identity to solely revolve around being part of a couple,”
In a recent interview with Complex, Camila Cabello, 27, revealed that some of her own songs hold different meanings for her now. Specifically, she admitted feeling tired of hearing “Señorita” more than “Havana,” despite being grateful for the success of both songs. Reflecting on their massive popularity, she expressed a concern that such songs might overshadow her own identity, saying, “There’s always a worry when a song becomes so massive that it’s going to define you in a way that might not be entirely representative of who you are.”
Discussing her collaboration “Señorita” with ex-boyfriend Shawn Mendes, whom she dated for over two years and sparked reunion rumors with in 2023, Camila Cabello expressed her reluctance to have her public relationships define her identity as a woman. In May, she announced her upcoming fourth album, C,XOXO, slated for release on June 28th, revealing its cover featuring her licking a lollipop that dyed her tongue blue.
Prior to C,XOXO, Cabello released albums in 2018 (Camila), 2019 (Romance), and 2022 (Familia). Her new era began with the electro-pop track “I Luv It” featuring rapper Playboi Carti, marking a departure with platinum blonde hair. She followed up with collaborations including “He Knows” with Lil Nas X and most recently “Chanel No. 5.”
Leading up to her latest song, Cabello discussed how it aligns thematically with the broader message of C,XOXO.
Describing the world of C, XOXO, Camila Cabello emphasized its sensual nature, rooted in the senses of taste, touch, sight, smell, and sound. She expressed her desire for listeners to immerse themselves in the sensory experience that inspired her when writing the album. Cabello further stated, “Above all, I want us to feel empowered when we experience being seen, heard, touched, inhaled, and tasted in the essence of Chanel No. 5.” She concluded by sharing that “Chanel No. 5” is her gift to fans ahead of the album’s release on Friday, June 28th.
