Based on recent speculation among fans, there’s a growing belief that Miley Cyrus could be headlining the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show.

There is speculation circulating that the singer known for “Flowers” will be the center stage performer at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX.

Miley Cyrus’ fans are abuzz with reports suggesting she could headline the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show. According to reports from July 8, the “Flowers” singer is rumored to be taking the stage at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, for football’s biggest night.

MLFootball, a popular sports site, first broke the rumors, mentioning that Cyrus, 31, was among the finalists for last year’s Halftime Show, which ultimately went to Usher. Fans on X are enthusiastic about the potential performance, noting Cyrus’ recent energetic and vocally impressive showing at the 2024 Grammys as a glimpse of what she could bring to the Super Bowl stage.

As of now, neither Cyrus nor the NFL has commented on these reports. PEOPLE reached out to both for clarification. Super Bowl LIX is scheduled for February 9, 2025, with the football season kicking off on September 5 this year.

If Cyrus does perform at the Super Bowl, it would mark a significant shift for the Grammy winner. In a May 2023 interview with British Vogue, she expressed a preference for performing in intimate settings for friends rather than in stadiums packed with fans.

“Singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn’t really my thing,” Cyrus shared. “There’s no connection. There’s no safety. It’s also not natural. It’s so isolating because if you’re in front of 100,000 people, then you are alone.”

Cyrus elaborated that the negative impact performing in stadiums had on her mental health was a major reason she hasn’t toured since her 2014 Bangerz Tour.

“This isn’t about not appreciating my fans but rather about what’s best for me right now,” she explained on X. “I simply don’t want to get ready in a locker room, which is the reality of life on the road. I just don’t want to sleep on a moving bus.”

If anyone could persuade Cyrus to perform at the Super Bowl, it might be her godmother Dolly Parton. Parton has already played a pivotal role in getting Cyrus on stage at the Grammys.

“I was debating whether to do the Grammys or not,” Cyrus recalled in a June 2024 episode of Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman. “And she said, ‘Well of course you’re going to do the Grammys. And you’re not just going to show up but you’re going to show off. And you’re going to be everything that you are sitting right here in front of me.'”

Cyrus emphasized Parton’s enduring advice: “‘You do you, and I’ll do me, and together we’ll be us.’ She wasn’t telling me to be Dolly, to hide behind sparkles and hair. She was telling me to be myself.”

Dolly Parton has never performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show during her extensive career, despite reportedly being offered the opportunity several times. In a November 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 78-year-old country icon explained her reasons for declining, citing other commitments and feeling unsure if she was suited for such a large-scale production.

“When you think about those shows, those are big, big productions. I’ve never done anything with that big of a production. I don’t know if I could have. I think at the time that’s what I was thinking,” Parton shared.

Fans have expressed excitement at the prospect of Parton and Cyrus sharing the Super Bowl Halftime Show stage together. Last August, one fan suggested on social media, “Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton should do the Super Bowl Halftime Show,” with another adding, “Now this is something I’d love to see.”
