Ariana Grande Offers a “Gentle Reminder” Urging Fans to Avoid Commenting on Others’ Bodies: “It Can Be Harmful”

The Grammy-winning artist posted the message to her Instagram Stories on Saturday, Nov. 29, sharing several clips from a 2024 interview.

Ariana Grande is offering a “friendly reminder” about how harmful it can be to comment on someone else’s body.

On Saturday, Nov. 29, the 32-year-old Grammy winner shared several Instagram Story clips from a 2024 interview where she discussed how she copes with unwanted opinions about her looks. One of the videos featured the text “Friendly Reminder” written across it.

In the footage, Grande began by saying, “I’ve basically been treated like an experiment in a Petri dish since I was about 16 or 17.”

She continued, “I’ve heard every possible critique — every version of what people think is wrong with me. And once you address one thing, suddenly something else is a problem. It could be your clothes, your body, your face — really, every part of you ends up under scrutiny.”

The Wicked: Part Two star went on to explain that, in her view, society has become far too comfortable making remarks about people’s bodies — even though those comments can be deeply damaging.

She continued, “We’ve developed this ease with judging how others look — their appearance, what we assume is happening in their personal lives, or their health. And honestly, it’s awful no matter where or how it happens. It’s never okay.”

Later in the conversation, the thank u, next singer described this kind of scrutiny as “dangerous,” but said she’s grateful to be surrounded by people who support and ground her.

“I’m very fortunate to have a strong circle around me and to feel confident in knowing I’m beautiful,” Grande said. “But I absolutely understand what that outside pressure feels like — it’s been present in my life since I was 17. I just don’t let it in anymore. It’s not welcome. I have work to do, a life to live, people I love, and so much love to give.”

She wrapped up her thoughts by urging others to shield themselves from negativity whenever they can.

This isn’t the first time the multi-talented performer has spoken out about body commentary. In April 2023, she posted a rare three-minute TikTok message addressing unsolicited remarks about her appearance.

“There are so many different ways to be healthy and beautiful,” she said at the time. “For me, the version of my body people keep comparing me to was actually when I was at my unhealthiest. I was on several antidepressants, drinking while taking them, not eating well, and at one of the lowest moments of my life — even though some people called that my ‘healthy’ look. It wasn’t healthy for me at all.”
