Ariana Grande might have a pop music surprise in store!
While walking the red carpet at the 2025 Oscars on March 2, the Wicked star, 31, hinted that new music could be on the way—despite announcing less than four months ago that she planned to focus on musical theater.
When Variety asked about the deluxe edition of her 2024 album Eternal Sunshine being “in the can,” Grande cryptically responded, “The next step is… it means it must come out.”
However, the Grammy-winning singer—who is up for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars for her role in Wicked—remained tight-lipped about a release date.
“They did the Brighter Days Memory Erasure treatment on me, so I’m having trouble remembering the details,” she joked, referencing the fictional clinic from the 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. “They’re a little foggy, because at the Brighter Days Clinic, they do the Memory Erasure.”
Playfully continuing the bit, Grande added, “I’ll have to go back to the clinic and see if they can restore my memory.”
When asked if the release would be happening soon, the Thank U, Next singer playfully clarified, “You have to learn the language of my fans—because soon means 10 days or less. I’m not allowed to use that word at this moment.”
Pressing for more details, host Marc Malkin asked, “So, it’s not less than 10 days?”
Grande remained coy, responding, “I’m not going to use that word today. I’ll say that.”
Leaving fans with a final hint, she teased, “Just keep your eyes peeled… That’s all I’m saying.”
Grande’s latest comments come less than four months after she shared that playing Glinda in Wicked reignited her passion for musical theater, leading her to consider shifting focus away from pop music. During an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast in November, she opened up about her love for the stage.
“It is my heart,” she said of acting. “I’m going to say something so scary—it’s going to scare the absolute s— out of my fans and everyone, but I love them, and they’ll deal, and we’ll be here forever. I’m always going to make music, I’m always going to go on stage, I’m always going to do pop stuff, I pinky promise. But I don’t think doing it at the rate I’ve been doing it for the past 10 years is where I see the next 10 years.”
For Grande, returning to Broadway would be a full-circle moment.
“Reconnecting with this part of myself—who started in musical theater, who loves comedy, and who finds healing in performing—has been so special,” she shared. “Finding roles that let me use these parts of myself, putting them into characters, bits, voices, and songs… Whatever makes sense, wherever I can truly honor the material, I would really love to. I think it’s a lot better for me. I’m getting emotional.”
As a child, Grande performed in 13: The Musical, making theater an integral part of her artistic journey.
