Addison Rae Reveals She Aimed for Her Debut Album ‘Addison’ to Capture the Vibe of an ‘R-Rated Libby Lu’

Rae dropped her first full-length album, Addison, on Friday, June 6.

Addison Rae had a clear creative direction for her debut album — one that reflects a nostalgic piece of her childhood.

In a recent appearance on Therapuss with Jake Shane, the 24-year-old pop artist shared that her first full-length project, Addison, draws inspiration from one of her favorite childhood spots: Club Libby Lu.

“The entire vision for the album was to give off an R-rated version of Libby Lu,” Rae said. Growing up in Louisiana, she fondly remembers the makeover store aimed at kids. “I used to go there all the time when I was little. I’ve even posted some photos before — it was adorable,” she told Shane.

Rae described herself as “a Southern girl at heart” and recalled being in middle school and living in Houston when she first experienced Libby Lu. For her, the brand now symbolizes a strong sense of nostalgia.

Club Libby Lu, a boutique known for offering themed parties and glam makeovers for young girls, was once a go-to destination for preteens. It closed in 2009 after its parent company, Saks Fifth Avenue, shut down its locations.

Rae officially released her debut, self-titled album Addison on Friday, June 6.

During a separate interview on Quen Blackwell’s YouTube series Feeding Starving Celebrities, Rae opened up about the process behind naming the album. She said she spent a long time contemplating what to call the record.

“When you listen to all the tracks together, there’s not really one name that sums it all up,” she explained. “Everyone I played it for kept saying, ‘It just sounds like you. This is exactly what your music would be.’ So eventually, I thought, maybe the album should just be my name.”

To mark the album’s release, Rae hosted a celebratory show at The Box — a legendary New York City nightclub — on Thursday, June 5, in collaboration with Spotify.

The event featured a visually rich performance that included dynamic choreography, wardrobe changes, and fresh takes on songs from the new album.
