“Someone commented, ‘I don’t even know why I hate Benson Boone, it just feels right,’” the Beautiful Things singer shared on TikTok.
Benson Boone isn’t bothered by haters—so long as they know why they dislike him.
In a TikTok video posted on April 21, the 22-year-old Beautiful Things artist addressed online negativity, expressing his hope that any criticism directed at him or his music is grounded in something more than just gut feeling.
“If you’re going to hate me or what I create, at least make sure there’s a solid reason behind it,” Boone wrote in on-screen text, paired with a front-facing video set to an unreleased track.
Boone further elaborated, “I saw a comment that said, ‘I don’t even know why I hate Benson Boone, but it just feels right.’ Like, WHAT!? How am I supposed to improve after reading that?”
The Grammy-nominated artist, who’s known for flipping during his performances, joked, “At least give me some real feedback, like ‘he just flips all over the place—can he do something else?’”
He also suggested that haters could express something like, “I just don’t like his music, even though I’ve only heard ‘Beautiful Things’ on repeat.” According to Boone, that would be a “super valid” critique.
In the comment section, a fan pointed out how heavy radio play of a hit song like “Beautiful Things” could negatively affect both the song and the artist, a sentiment Boone agreed with, replying, “Honestly, that’s so true!!”
Boone, known for his hit “Sorry I’m Here for Someone Else,” recently made headlines after his performance at Coachella on April 11, where his rendition of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody with Brian May was met with a lackluster response from the audience.
In a TikTok video where he humorously sings into a banana, Boone wrote, “Me trying to get the Coachella crowd to understand what an absolute legend Brian May is and the cultural impact he’s had on music and THE WORLD.”
